Slow Start to 2025

Hello! First, let us start by saying we are so happy to be back in the fields! That being said—does anyone remember last spring? Above-normal temperatures, lots of sunny days, and perfectly timed rain, preceded by a winter that was mild with just the right amount of snow cover.
Well… none of that is happening or has happened this season so far. Consequently, we won’t have any produce to sell for a while yet—we're keeping our fingers crossed for mid-May. By then, we should have some asparagus, our meat freezers will be restocked, and the spinach, lettuce, and arugula won't be far behind. So, the word for this time of year is patience—Mother Nature has decided we need a lesson in that!

We have planted the first broccoli, cauliflower, and cabbage transplants. Also, the first spinach, spring mix lettuce, and arugula seeds have jumped out of the ground. Even the first sweet corn and sugar snap peas are planted but have yet to make an appearance.
Speaking of making an appearance, our Black Angus beef herd has produced 22 calves at the time of this writing. They are adorable and so much fun to watch frolicking around in the pasture.

Here’s hoping for consistent, average weather—a farmer's best friend! We hope to see all of you soon. Be sure to follow us on Facebook and Instagram for regular updates: @greenbarnfarmmarket
