August Update

Summer's Bounty has Arrived!

August has arrived, and summer is officially in full swing at Green Barn Farm Market!
The fields are producing, the markets are overflowing, and there is something especially satisfying about this time of year — when the work of the growing season comes together in a colorful bounty of fresh vegetables and sweet summer favorites.
Right now, we’re enjoying an abundance of:

• Sweet Corn
• TOMATOES!
• Sugar Cube Cantaloupe
• Green Beans
• Onions
• Jalapeños

And if there’s one thing August reminds us, it’s that summer doesn’t last forever.
With Labor Day weekend just around the corner, now is the perfect time to enjoy everything the season has to offer — whether that means eating tomatoes straight from the garden, putting together a big summer meal, enjoying one more sweet corn feast, or filling the kitchen with the sights and smells of preserving.
Now is the time to preserve a little bit of summer for the cold winter ahead.
Tomatoes for salsa and sauce. Green beans tucked away for winter meals. Sweet corn preserved for a taste of summer when snow is on the ground. Jalapeños ready to add a little heat to recipes months from now.
There’s something special about opening a jar or pulling a bag from the freezer in the middle of winter and remembering these warm August days.
So come enjoy the bounty while it’s here. Fill your kitchen, fill your freezer, stock up for canning, and make the most of these final weeks of summer.
The harvest is here, and there’s still plenty of summer left to enjoy.
